I am sure you know that boring feeling when you are waiting for something, like a bus, or at the store? You grab your iPhone, you want to play something so the time passes quicker. You wind up being frustrated since you have 50 games, and you don’t have anything cool to play. What than?
Well, I am sure you know what… You hit the Apple app store, find something cool, but here’s the tricky part. If there’s no Wifi (and since you are probably out of luck, because you just can’t find an interesting game on your iphone) what can save you? Well you better have a reliable mobile carrier like O2. If you are waiting for a bus, that means you need the game on your iPhone the sooner the better!
The last thing you want is spend your time waiting for the bus, waiting for the game to download. Oh, double wait! My tip would be to go after the simple games. They download much faster, and since this is the “first aid” solution, don’t spend to much time on deciding what game to download or worrying if you are going to play it for the next month. Find some fun quick game like Kdice or Maze Finger. Or, if you have an extra minute, visit your favorite web site that reviews games, find their latest tip, top 10, or something that looks low on graphics but has great gameplay.
Hm, come to think of, I just had an idea. What do you think if we created a category that would focus strictly on games that are:
- fast to download
- short play (that you don’t have to play 10 minutes to skip a level)
- great graphics (but nothing heavy)
- great gameplay
I think that there’s a huge market. A lot of people, especially business people, have only few minutes that they want to kill somehow, but don’t have the adequate game for that. I hope that iOSlide can help solving that problem, and get you in front of such a game. Naturally this wouldn’t apply to iPod touch users, because they can’t connect online. I also believe that iPod touch users have more time and they use their devices more at home.
This conclusion can also be taken if you want to get into iPhone game development! This is the ideal market. I think I am onto something :)
Recently iPhone 4 arrived in Croatia and we expect to have couple of them. This is important for you, because you can expect HD videos, and we can take in-game videos with screen-capture software.
Also, soon you can order (pre-orders are available now) tripod mount / stand for iPhone 4 (only for iPhone 4). Head over to Kickstarter, where 2 boys from New York are collecting money to begin production. They collected almost 100 000 $ (that’s 100K) in a week. Glif on Kickstarter We are also backing them, and we ordered 2 Glifs, so we are looking forward to getting them around Christmas.
Soon you can expect 10 more reviews, including Cut the Rope, which was just amazing! Don’t forget to recommend us on Twitter, Facebook and Youtube, where you can see all our videos.
Soosiz is a cute and unique game for iPhone. It instantly reminded me of all those days spent playing Super Mario.
Gameplay
Well, most of the game is like Super Mario, where you move to the right. But than a fun thing occurs, when you jump, you continue to walk up-side down. It’s best to see the video to understand this. Soosiz is fun, cute and has that unique world and atmosphere.
Game is a no-brainer, you just go to the right and pick up coins… There are a lot of levels to play on, so don’t plan to finish anytime soon.
Graphics
Soosiz has unique graphics, and it creates a that special user experience. It really pulls in the player in that world. Characters inside the game look cartoonish and so those the whole world.
Sounds
Sounds and music are great, and realy enhance the story behind the character. You can hear it’s done by professionals, and it impacts the gameplay.
Best practice for little ninja’s without the possibility of they hurting themselves. Fruit ninja!
Gameplay
Cute game where you practice your (and your blade’s) sharpness and reflexes. But it’s not just cutting fruit for you fruit salad… You have to be careful not to touch any bombs, and try to create as much combos as you can. You will score much better if you slice 3 fruits at the same time, than if you do it one by one. Also, it’s better if you make any kind of combo, than none.
If you own an iPad, I would really recommend multiplayer with your friend because it’s way more fun! You try to make more points, and you slip him a bomb or two so you can win. There are 2 modes to choose from classic mode and zen mode. Basically, one is limited by time, other by unsliced fruits. Also a fun fact, to choose an option, you have to swipe/slice the fruit/option.
Graphics
Graphics in Fruit ninja are nice and polished. I am sure you will enjoy the menus, the fruits, and that typical Dojo sensei. Whole atmosphere is very unique and it tells a story. Really unique!
Sounds
Similar as the graphics, it really brings out that whole dojo, Japan culture. Music and sounds are well introduced to player throughout the game, wanting the player to take of the slippers as he starts the game.
This is a must for every briscola and tressetta fan out there!
Gameplay
Tressetta is an old italian card game. I love it because it’s played in our family for generations. Also, every summer, when you go to the beach, Tressette is the game to play. Naturally, you would want this game on iPhone. It would take me too much time to explane the rules of Tressette and I think mostly old tressette players would look for this game. So I don’t see the point in writing the rules. I bet iPad version looks great :)
Graphics
It’s never important to see great graphics in card games, same here. Graphics in Tressette is as good as it gets for card games, so it wont disappoint you.
Sounds
All the sounds you can get is dropping cards so…. I hope that’s all you expect. Music is great though, and it’s always nice to have something play in the background while you are playing.
That special something for all those solitaire lovers.
Gameplay
It seems pointless to explain one of the oldest games there is… Solitaire a card game that everyone played at least one time in their lives. Either with paper cards, or in Windows, since the Windows 95 edition. The app Solitaire is great for average solitaire lover. You can play that game of solitaire every now and then without any delays. You don’t need to turn on your computer just to play a quick game of solitaire…
Graphics
Graphics in Solitaire are nice and neat. Nothing bombastic, but it serves the purpose, no remarks here. All in all, it will satisfy all your solitaire needs. After all, everyone should have solitaire installed by default.
Sounds
Unfortunately, there is just the sounds of cards shuffling, so don’t expect much. But I don’t know of any solitaire lover, who insists of great music during his game of solitaire.
I haven’t had the chance to review a space game so far, so here’s one! Similar to old Asteroids game only on steroids.
Gameplay
It’s nice to see modern iPhone game production of an old idea, such as Asteroids. Basically, you move around the planet, and destroy rocks and enemies. Only you have plenty of levels, and one of my favourite things in gaming – upgrades! During the course of the game, you can upgrade your weapons, boost, cannon, speed and other. It’s always great when you have something to play for, and that special moment when you try out that new gun! :)
I just wish I could play it more, because games like this are better the longer you play them! After you are done with arcade mode, try the survival mode.
Graphics
Meteor Blitz looks very nice and polished. Flying over the planet is great it keeps the user experience high. Several planets/worlds to play on, so get ready! Menus and options also have that space feel, where you buy weapons and upgrade your spaceship.
Sounds
Both sounds and music are work of professionals so you can expect great tones that go together with graphics. Combined with great graphics, they make a great asteroid story.
P.S. I bet it’s even better on iPad, because i can imagine how good it would look on a big screen…
This is the original Risk game, developed by EA Games. Every aspect of this game is top-notch, and it won’t disappoint any Risk fan.
Gameplay
All classic Risk rules apply. When you attack, you need to have at least 2 units. You attack with a dice throw (2 or 3 dices, depending on the number of units you posses). Upon victory, you choose how many units should infiltrate that field. After performing all the attack, you have the right to do 1 maneuver (fortify), move forces from one place to another.
The bigger picture consists of forming tactics to conquer all the fields in the world. At the beginning of each turn you receive new forces. The amount of units you get, depends on the number of fields you control. If you control a whole continent for whole turn you receive extra reinforcements.
Graphics
When EA Games makes a game it always delivers a certain level of quality. Such is seen in Risk! Graphics, animation, and short clips in background and during the game, all impact in players experience. No doubt, it was a work of professionals and I am sure you will enjoy this board game.
Sounds
Like I wrote previously, all aspects off the game are up on the ladder. Sounds, and music for that matter, are in place, and create that Risk atmosphere all the way throughout the game. Off course, all that quality comes with a price tag, so be prepared for a higher price.
A great strategic game! Remake of a flash game, with multilayer support. Kdice is an excellent remake of Risk based game, where some aspects are even better than Risk!
Gameplay
I love strategic games, and first time I played Kdice (flash version on PC) i couldn’t stop. New kind of playing, tactics, with a little dose of luck to mess up your plans. Rules are really simple. You can have 1-8 dice on single field. When you attack neighbouring fields, more dices you have, the bigger the chance you will take out all the opponents dice on that field. Point of the game is to take over all the fields or make your opponents flag for 2nd, 3rd or 4th place.
At the end of your turn, you get dices the same number of fields you control. This game is very tense, and involves battles 2 on 1 or 1 vs 1 vs 1 and everybody has their own idea of how the game should fold. Because of that, the game is live from the start, because nobody wants to see 1 player break out. Since the board is not the world, everyone can attack almost everyone at every point of the game.
Graphics
This is not a special part of the game, but it does not influence one bit of gameplay. It’s a strategic board game, so cool graphics is not the first thing that comes to your attention. It’s dices attacking dices…
Sounds
Nothing special here either, some sounds of dice rolling, and that’s it. With that in mind, pricing is a little bit over, but if you love strategic board games, you’ll love Kdice. Which is another thing I don’t understand, you have to play for Lite version…

If you missed our Labyrinth review, check it out now. Labyrinth 2 is even better!
Gameplay
Right from the start you can see what’s the big new thing in Labyrinth 2. Lot of interference and interaction in the game! Now you must duplicate your ball, make it small, open doors and you need to be careful of cannons and other obstacles. There are plenty of levels, more to download, and probably much more to come. It’s very fun, and requires precision and patience so I hope you have some :)
Graphics
Quality of graphics stayed the same like in the first version of Labyrinth. You can see in the screenshots that wood looks real, and ball movement feels great with iPhone’s accelerometer. With excellent sounds, and perfect timing, you feel as if the ball is real.
Sounds
As I previously mentioned, sounds are great! They really make it sounds like the ball is really moving, and you are controlling it with your iPhone. It’s defiantly a unique experience. There aren’t many sounds, but the ones that are there, are great. Also, there’s no music, but hey, you have your iPod…
